In the mid 1990s Celso de Lemos bought this beautiful vineyard in Silgueiros, close to his natal ‘home’, with the dream to create an exclusive wine. A wine, dedicated to his closest friends and family. A wine of friendship that adjoins with good conversation and strengthens the bonds between people.

To every dear friend of the Quinta de Lemos, a row of vines is dedicated. By sharing their name (grafted in the beginning of every nominative row of vines) with the vines, Celso de Lemos symbolizes this shared emotion.

The Quinta is well hidden in the beautiful valley of the Dao , the oldest wine producing region in Portugal. Located near Viseu, the regional capital , full of charm and with a medieval heart, the Quinta is set on the plateau of Beira Alta at an altitude of 340 m. In this green haven in the centre of Portugal, the Quinta consists of 25 ha of vineyards, 3000 olive trees and beehives to produce the finest honey.

The granite and sandy soils of the Dao valley are well protected by four big mountains (Serra da Estrela, Serra do Caramulo, Serra do Bucaco and Serra da Nave), shielded from the harsh extremes of a continental climate and the humid Atlantic influences.

One of the unique points of the Portuguese Dao wines is their reliance on indigenous varieties. Touriga Nacional is the leading variety of the Dao and produces spicy wines with forest fruit characteristics. The thick-skinned, dark-colored grapes of the Tinta Roriz variety gives a fruity taste and resinous fragrance. The Jaen is known for its peppery taste. Whereas the Alfrocheiro shows a wine with velvety texture, inky depth of color and flavors of mint, flowers and fresh strawberries.

Classically the Dao wine is a blend of two or more of these varietals. Each year Quinta de Lemos presents two blends and different mono-varietal wines. In memory of our forefathers we use the names of those who are dear to our family for our most noble wines; Dona Santana, Dona Georgina, Dona Louise…
