This wine combines the romantic spirit of the ancient vineyards of Bom Retiro with the solid maturity of the Quinta de Ervamoira Estate. The Collection blends grapes from those two origins to express all the fineness of a Cima Corgo wine together with the concentration of an Upper Douro wine. 2008 was an atypically cool year, most especially for the Upper Douro region.
Mild summer temperatures allowed for slow maturation to produce wines with good acidity and great freshness of aroma. The grapes from which this wine was produced were selected and harvested manually into small containers to undergo fermentation in granite presses and stainless steel vats. Malolactic fermentation took place in French oak barrels, and, subsequently, 75% of the wine was kept in tuns and the remainder was aged in 2nd or 3rd fill barrels for 18 months.
